Virginia Cowderoy
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Virginia Cowderoy on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023. She fought strong and very brave up to her last breath throughout her dealing with her health issues, with the goal of being able to go home at Northgate Plaza with her friends that she developed over several years and be with her loving family.
She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Greatgrandmother, Daughter and friend. A true loving family woman. Virginia is survived by her, daughter Sherry Begue, her husband Bill Begue, their children Gary and Diana; son Michael, his wife Christina her children Paul and Robin; son Dwayne Scott, his wife Joy, their daughters, Holly, husband Ricky and their daughter Kamryn; and Breanna husband Clinton and their children Everly and Carter. Her beloved Husband Paul passed away in 2017 and ever so sweet daughter Christine passed away in 2019.
Virginia was born in Portland, Oregon on March 30th 1928 to Madeline and Bernard.
Virginia and Paul “the Love of her Life” first met in 1943 in Oregon at an ocean beach, it was love at first sight. Their relationship blossomed and they were married in her home city of Portland, August 10th 1945. They did celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary together on August 10th 2017. They lived in Seattle in the Northgate/Lake City area. Her first job after the war that she got was at the Boeing Company, she delivered in-plant mail at Boeing’s Plant II. Although she had to quit in 1947 because of expecting her first child Sherry. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s she worked at the Northgate Bon Marche in the Men’s clothing department. In 1961 she started working for the Seattle School district in the Jane Addams Jr high school cafeteria. When Nathan Hale High School opened in 1963 she transferred to their cafeteria and did become their Baker and remained there until her retirement. To this day she is still known for making the best cinnamon rolls of all time.
Retiring in 1985 she remained very busy, among many things she and Paul turned to traveling in their truck and camper, then moved up to a larger RV. They were members of the Elks 1800 Wheelers RV Club, holding several leadership roles, which they continued doing until their 80’s. They took many trips around the country and their call name was the “Red Baron”. They were also into physical conditioning, they both either jogged or fast walked around Greenlake on a regular basis. She and Paul were avid Seattle Sounder fans, and had season tickets back in the 1980’s when they played in the Kingdome, in the later years she and Paul watched the games on TV. She also loved the Seahawks and watched them on TV in the hospital just before she passed away.
Her Family was extremely important to her, the Family “Get-Togethers” were very important to her. The family meant everything to her and she loved each and everyone of us with all her heart and soul. Her last words spoken were about her love of her Family.
It is impossible to adequately describe the many facets and attributes that made Virginia the incredible woman that she was. She had a connection and lasting impact on so many people throughout her life. Her death has left an enormous void which can never be filled. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
