Stephen L. Simpson


1938-2011

Stephen Simpson passed away December 19 at home in Redmond after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.  Steve was born in Blossburg, PA May 26, 1938, the only child of Hazel and Milo Simpson and grew up in Hornell, MY.  He graduated from SUNY Albany where he met his love, Dorothy Harper.  They were wed in Albany, NY in 1959.  A tour in the Army counter-intelligence moved them to Seattle, WA.  After graduate school at the UW Steve spent most of his working life in sales, concluding with 4 years at his favorite job; Scan Design Furniture.  Steve loved classical music, chess,soccer and history; especially history of the Civil War.  His children and grandchildren gave him great joy.

Steve is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Juleen Vache (Michael) of Redmond, son Jeff (Nicole) of Prospect, KY, and grandsons Conor, Carson, and Ian Vache and Joel and Jackson Simpson.  He is also survived by his uncle Arlin Cary of Westfield, PA.  His caregiver Bezen Tekle was especially dear to him.  Steve was predeceased by his parents Milo & Hazel Simpson.

The family is grateful for the support of the Booth Gardener Parkinson’s Center, Evergreen Hospice, Visiting Angels and all the friends who stood with us through his illness.  A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date.
