Stephen “Steve” Paul Currie

Steve Currie passed away unexpectedly February 20, 2013.  He leaves behind his wife Lorraine, daughters Jessica and Rachel, granddaughter Evie, his sisters Gail Johnson and Janine Wall and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray & Ann Currie.

Steve was born in San Francisco, CA in 1949.  He lived in Ravenswood, WV as a child.  In 1959 his family moved to Washington State.  He went to Bothell High School and graduated from Inglemoor High School in Kenmore.  Steve went to Seattle University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He worked for Boeing, at Bremerton Naval Shipyard, Sup-Ship Engineering at Sand Point Naval Station and NOAA.  He was a port engineer with a specialty in ship repair.   Steve retired from NOAA in 2011 after 19 ½ years of service.

Steve & Lorraine spent many vacations boating in the San Juan Islands and British Columbia.  In 2010 he realized his lifelong dream of becoming a grandfather with the birth of his dear granddaughter Evie.  Steve was the kind of person children were drawn to because he was a child at heart himself.Steve 8

He was noted for his marvelous sense of humor (often less than appropriate for the occasion) and his ability to find fun in everyday occurrences.    Any party improved with Steve’s presence because he had an amazing capacity for fun.  He was very competitive in games and sports.  Steve enjoyed soccer, golf, skiing and hiking.

To Steve there were no strangers—only friends that he had not yet made.  Many people thought of him as their best friend.  He was an exceptionally helpful and generous person.  Steve had many talents and wore many “hats”.  He was creative with problem solving and could fix almost anything, but not always in the most conventional way.

Steve 1There will be a funeral mass at 11 AM on Thursday, Feb. 28 and a reception following at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, located at 12600 84th Ave. NE, Kirkland, WA 98034. There will also be a celebration of Steve’s life on Friday, March 1 from 7-10 PM at Lorraine Currie’s home.

Steve will always be remembered and constantly in our hearts.  He will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends.  Thank you to everyone for the kind words, prayers and condolences.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Steve’s name to “National Blood Clot Alliance” www.stoptheclot.org/donate.htm
