Shaun Murphy

On January 19, 2023, Shaun Kelly Murphy, age 30, loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, passed away unexpectedly.

Shaun was born on October 8, 1992 in Redmond, WA to Kevin and Lynette Murphy. He was raised under the great trees and gentle rains of Fall City, Washington. The family camped (damming up streams whenever possible), were in Scouts (whittling everything), traveled to great science adventures each summer (exploring paleontology, geology, and natural history), skied/boarded (shredded the gnar on Big Mountain) and hunted together (practiced the quiet game while hiking). He loved Bellingham and Western Washington University, where he studied Biochemistry and proudly researched blood replacement therapies. Shaun loved science and had a deep & abiding passion to help cure diseases, especially those affecting his loved ones. He was a skilled snowboarder, avid rock climber, steadfast teammate, talented home chef, and an ardent member of the Murphy Clan.

Shaun was a fierce friend loved for his engulfing bear hugs, compassionate nature, and incredible empathy. He was an amazing hunting partner to his dad, gardener with his mom and his brother’s constant best friend. He loved his family and truly adored his little nephews, which he lovingly called “Niblings”. He made strong connections wherever he went, took immense pride in helping others, and was selfless in his dedication to those he loved. Depression constrained Shaun, bridling his admirable ambitions, though he unwaveringly refused to let it dampen his love for family and friends.

Shaun is survived by his parents Kevin and Lynette of Whitefish, MT, brother Michael (sister-in-law Caryssa and their sons Beckett, Ronan and Caiden) of Bothell, WA, Grandparents Don and Carol Murphy, as wells as many Uncles, Aunts and 11 cousins, who all miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents, Martha and Wendel, Uncle Tim, Aunt Stacy and Godmother Marie.
