Sandra Jean (Storey) Evans passed away on April 21, 2022 in her home at Trilogy Redmond Ridge. Sandra was born on October 22, 1943 at City Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Pauline Ann (Handerek) Storey and Walter Henry Storey. She grew up in Saskatoon in the family home on McPherson Avenue built by her parents after WWII. She attended St. Joseph School for Grades 1 through 8, and then Nutana Collegiate for Grades 9 through 12. A “Nine A” student through high school, she was accepted into the College of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, and received her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree with Honors in 1965, followed by a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1967.
On February 3, 1968 Sandra married Wayne Frederick John Evans at St. Joseph Church in Saskatoon. She met Wayne when they were both university students, and he escorted her to a formal dance. After the wedding, they flew immediately to France, honeymooning on the French Riviera, then settling in an apartment in a suburb outside of Paris.
After a year in France, they returned to Saskatoon where Sandra accepted a position at the University Hospital as a pharmacist. Then, it was off to Toronto after the birth of their eldest son, Glenn Frederick Walter Evans, in Saskatoon. Sandra and Wayne settled first in Thornhill, Ontario where their younger son, Patrick Wayne John Evans was born. In the early 1980’s, the family moved to Nobleton, where she again returned to her profession as a retail pharmacist at the Nobleton pharmacy.
Sandra loved travel and the outdoors which included hiking and recreational sports, especially cross-country skiing. So, it was no surprise that when they retired, they decided to follow Glenn and Patrick to Washington state, living first in Monroe, and finally settling on Trilogy as a perfect place for their retirement adventures. Glenn and his wife, Djordjija Basaric Evans, blessed them with four children: Maja, Alexander, Danijela and Tijana, and proximity allowed Sandra to dote on them. Sandra’s youngest son, Patrick, married Nicole Ruth Rigos in 2003. Both sons pursued careers at Microsoft, with Patrick and Nicole sharing Sandra’s love of travel.
Trilogy was the perfect fit for Sandra, who soon found a quilting group that shared her love of the craft. With the same meticulous care that Sandra applied to everything that she did, she found great pleasure in creating special quilts for her children and grandchildren, labelling and documenting each of them carefully so that the stories of their creation could also be gifted to the recipients. Sandra also enjoyed photography and was a skilled artist.
Sandra made friends wherever she went and kept in touch with them over the course of her life. Everyone who had the opportunity to know her was richer for the experience. She will live on in her children and grandchildren, and in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Going before her into the next adventure are her husband Wayne, her parents, and her eldest nephew. She will be forever remembered by her sons and their spouses, Glenn and Djordjija, Patrick and Nicole, her grandchildren Maja, Alex, Danijela and Tija, “little sister” Cheryl Bock and her spouse Bryan, youngest nephew Daniel, numerous cousins, and her friends.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice; close to Sandra’s heart was the American Cancer Society.
