Born: August 26, 1952 – Died: July 9, 2019

Roy Mock

Roy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Monelli; his daughter Johanna Eby and her husband Jack Eby; his sister Cynthia Reusche’; his brother Peter Mock and his wife Cathy Mock; his granddaughter Kendra Eby; and his cats, Katniss and Rue.

Roy is preceded in death by his father, Roy Edward Mock, and his mother, Greta Cynthia Mock (née Funk).

Roy was born in Munich, Germany. As the son of an Air Force officer, he spent his first fifteen years living in a variety of locations until settling in Phoenix, AZ in 1967. Roy remained in Arizona until 2006 when he moved to Seattle.

Roy was a graduate of the University of Arizona with degrees in Psychology and Pharmacy. Most of his working life was devoted to clinical pharmacy, specializing in oncology, bone marrow transplant, and pain management. During his time in Arizona, Roy was also active in working in the area of pain management with sickle cell anemia patients. Before coming to Seattle, Roy was the clinical pharmacist for the bone marrow transplant program at City of Hope/Banner-Good Samaritan hospital in Phoenix. He was the first pharmacist in Arizona to be given prescribing privileges in addition to being named State Pharmacist of the Year two years in a row.

His desire to work with the under-served brought him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. During the last seven years, he served as the oncologist for the gastrointestinal service at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and as a clinical instructor in the school of Pharmacy at the University of Washington. One of his great loves was mentoring, so he treasured his role as a preceptor of pharmacy residents. He was named preceptor of the year for 2016-17 for UW Medicine and in 2017 was awarded the Washing State Pharmacy Association’s Bill Mueller Outstanding Mentor Award.

Roy’s Christian faith was of upmost importance to him. Although he was a life-long Episcopalian he spent the last 8 years as an active member of Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church. He was a devoted mentor to new members and youth confirmation students. A talented drummer and journeyman guitarist, Roy loved music even more than he loved fishing (which brought him inexplicable joy).

Roy is deeply missed by family, church family, co-workers, and his beloved kitties.

The funeral service for Roy will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, Seattle.
