Richard ‘Dick’ Downs, Sr.

Gone Fishin

 

Dick passed away in Bellevue on Tuesday, September 3rd at age 85.

He was born in Yakima, WA to Edna and Joseph Downs on December 8, 1933.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Dennis, his sister Pam, his son Rich Downs, and his stepson Ted Hagerty.

Dick went to Marquette High School and graduated in 1952. He went on to earn a full scholarship at Gonzaga University in basketball and baseball and remained an avid Zags fan his entire life. Dick spent 2 years in the Army and did tours in Europe. After his military service, he worked for the Department of Transportation for 25 years and helped construct Interstate I-90. He then worked several years for Puget Power as a right away agent where he retired.

Dick was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting, and golfing.

He was a kind and thoughtful man and a loyal friend.

Dick is survived by his devoted wife Vicki of 31 years.

He will also be missed by his sister Carole (Jess) Woodruff, sons Curt (Julie) and Brad, stepdaughter Cara (Billy) Burton, and 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Dick’s wish was for no memorial service but that his ashes be spread where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and friends.
