William “Bill” Wright Redway, 87, died peacefully with his family by his side on September 9, 2026, after a long and full life marked by devotion to family, service to others, and a quiet steadiness. Born July 31, 1939 with his identical twin brother Laurence, Bill was the youngest of five children of Albert J. Redway and Edith Parker Redway of Washington, D.C. He attended St. George’s School in Newport, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
Bill served in the Marine Corps Reserve and built a decades-long career in banking and finance, including work with the Foreign Credit Insurance Association and later the Export-Import Bank of the United States, where he became a leader and advocate for small businesses. He spent much of his life in Washington D.C., Greenwich, CT, Buck Hill Falls, PA, Marion, MA and Seattle. WA.
Above all, Bill will be remembered as a devoted father, stepfather, husband, brother, colleague, parishioner, perpetual dog lover, and friend who cared for those around him in practical, loyal, and ever-present ways. He was predeceased by his wife, Judy, and later moved to Seattle to be closer to his children and stepchildren. He is survived by his children and stepchildren: Alicia Kochan, Elizabeth Laird Redway, William Redway Jr., Phebe Bell, Halsey Bell , and Elizabeth Bell. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, earnestness, loyalty, and quiet strength.
