Norma Leicester

Norma Jean Leicester passed away April 25, 2026 in Redmond, Washington. Norma was born in Tacoma, WA on November 16,1943 to William P. and Margaret B. Leicester.

She lived the majority of her life in Redmond and started her educational trajectory at Redmond Elementary and graduated from Lake Washington High School with Honors in 1961. Norma then went to Whitman College majoring in sociology, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. After teaching at the elementary level for many years she then earned a Master of Education from Seattle University in 1988. She continued teaching as a resource room and reading educator. She also tutored many students in the Redmond area and volunteered as a Lunch Buddy at Redmond Elementary. Finally, she supported non-English speakers to learn English. She was a dedicated teacher who found joy in helping others.

Norma was a world traveler, a devoted Mariners fan, a believer of drinking only great coffee, and an accomplished NYTimes Crossword Puzzle solver. She joyfully made friends wherever life took her and she cherished those friendships, old and new. She will be remembered for her wit, enthusiasm, and contagious smile. Friends recently referred to her as “a kick”, “very intelligent”, “a character”, “caring and empathetic”, “joyful and friendly”, and “splendidly grumpy!”

Norma is survived by Sandy Leicester (SIL), Leah Leicester (Niece), Matt Leicester (Nephew) and two Grandnephews. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Charles (Chuck) Leicester. We miss her unique humor and joy of family.

Norma had many people who loved her from all the diverse areas of her life. The family encourages you to gather with your friends in your communities to celebrate Norma. Thank you all for enriching her life and adding to her joy.
