Mary H. Schoordyk

Mary H. Schoordyk

Mary H. Schoordyk was born on April 4, 1919 to Edwin and Elizabeth Nelson in Seattle (South Park).

She later moved to Beacon Hill. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1938. She grew up in the days of Model T’s and remembered moving from South Park to Beacon Hill by horse and wagon. She spoke many times of going everywhere by bus and street car.

In 1940 she married Donald Meier. In 1942 they moved to Redmond on Lake Sammamish. She and Donald had two children, Joanne and Don. They were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church and joined Happy Valley Grange in 1947. She spent her married years to Donald caring for her children, babysitting, teaching Sunday school, sewing for herself and children, and helping at functions at the Grange Hall. When Donald died in 1971 she went to work at Douglas Drugs Store in Redmond until she retired in 1981.

She married Pete Schoordyk in 1979. They spent their retirement years traveling, fishing, and spending time at the Redmond Senior Center where she volunteered for many years.

She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and China painting. But most of all she enjoyed her time with family.

She is survived by her children Joanne Isackson (Duane) and Donald Meier, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, her husbands, Don Meier and Pete Schoordyk and two daughters-in-law, Lenora and Esther.
