Martha Edith Cory

Martha Edith Carvell Cory was born in Blackwater, North Dakota on July 5 1920 and passed into God’s loving hands 2 days after her 91st. birthday, July 7, 2011.

When she was 13 her family moved to Denver, Colorado where she grew up.  She was working at Wright and McGill Fishhook factory when she met her husband to be, Marvin Cory.  On April 5, 1940, the two of them eloped to Paris and were married, (Paris Idaho, that is).

Marvin and Martha moved to Dove Creek, Colorado where they started a family and worked their homestead.  Martha worked miracles with the pinto beans they grew.

In 1953 they made Meridian, Idaho their home.  Meridian did not have a lot of industry so in 1956 they moved on to Washington.

Martha loved people, and people loved her.  She was a superstar at selling Avon which gave her the opportunity to visit her neighbors and friends often.

Martha always had a warm hug for all who entered her home, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  As one of her grandchildren so adequately said, “I believe in angels, I knew one once…I called her Grandma”.

Her husband of 66 years passed in 2006, and a special furry friend “Rascal”, who kept her young, passed earlier this year.

Martha is survived by her 8 children, Marvin “Lee” (Mabel) of Iowa, Frank (Sharon) of Washington, Carl (Betty) of Oregon, Carol Conklin of Washington, Jack (Judy) of Washington, Charlene Miner of Washington, Diana (Walter) of Canada, and Marilyn Smith of Washington. She is also survived by one sister Jeannine of California, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren as well as those who loved her and lovingly called her MOM, Granny, and Grandma.
