Lawrence Edwin Spiegelberg

Lawrence Edwin Spiegelberg, born on June 16, 1940 in everett, Washington, to Dorothy Inez and Otto Emil Spiegelberg, passes away in his home on November 26, 2008. Larry grew up in Ballard, Washington and attended Ballard High School. Soon after high school he opened an auto body shop in Seattle, which he operated for several years, but in 1961 Larry began a 40 year career as a Commercial fisherman…..a longliner, fishing aboard 70 foot schooners for black cod and halibut, throughout the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea. During his years as a fisherman, Larry made many wonderful friends and shared many exciting experiences with them. When he was 30 years old, Larry became a born-again christian and devoted the rest of his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In 2003, at the age of 63, Larry retired from commercial fishing in order to spend more time with his family. He then worked in real estate, construction and remodeling, and part-time at his church in Edmonds. Larry was a kind and loving man who will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Brett Webber and wife Justine, Larry Neil Spiegelberg, Eric Jon Spiegelberg, Travis Kent Spiegelberg and wife Rachel, Joseph Russell Anderson, Cynthia Marie Jackson and husband Dave, and Matthew Isaac Spiegelberg; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Caroll Lou O’hara and husband Leroy, Karen Ann Quillen, Jennifer Kay Smeade; brother, Charles Arthur Smeade and wife Melanie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Terrance Neil Spiegelberg and Gene Spiegelberg; and brother-in-law, Orville Quillen. Our family wishes to express thanks to Dr. Tolman, Dr, Landis, Dr, Ludlam, and all the wonderful doctors and staff of Puget Sound Cancer Center and Swedish Cancer Institute. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 1:00 pm at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds. Memorials may be made to the American cancer Society.
