Kathy Lynn Carnes, a longtime resident of Monroe, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on June 28, 1955, to Pete and Betty Owen, Kathy grew up with a big heart, a bright smile, and a love of life that never faded.
She dedicated 34 years to the Monroe School District as a school bus driver guiding generations of students safely to and from school with warmth, humor, and genuine care. Her kindness and easy laughter left lasting memories for all who knew her along her routes.
Kathy loved spending her summers camping at Lake Wapato, where many cherished family traditions were made. She also enjoyed a good glass of Chardonnay, a bit of luck at the casino, and time shared with friends and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Betty Owen, and her brother, Chris Owen. Kathy is survived by her husband, Gene Carnes; her children, Jenell Steltz (James), Heather Merritt (Rick), Mandy Denton,(Trevor Pouge) Robert Denton ( Elisha Gilday) and Pamela Sills (Bryce); Brothers Bob Owen (Chalice) and Scott Owen (Linda), seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild each of whom brought her endless pride and joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Blue Boy Golf Course in Monroe, Washington. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life well-lived and deeply loved.
