John Peter Muscat

John Peter Muscat

John Peter Muscat, age 64, of Woodinville, Washington, took his last breath at 5:55 am on Saturday, April 11, 2020. He spent his final days surrounded by friends and family at the Evergreen Health Hospice Care Center in Kirkland, Washington after a particularly stubborn fight with cancer.

Born January 7, 1956 in Bronx, New York, he was the eldest son of John Peter (Carmelo) Muscat and Anne Dorothy Gutowski. John married Theresa O’Reilly on May 17, 1980 in Deer Park, New York, and they remained together for 27 years until she preceded him in death on June 27, 2007. He worked most of his life as a carpenter and was the father of three sons: Michael, Jerry, and Johnny. As his children grew, his family expanded to include Michael’s partner Jade and Jerry’s wife Christina. He also found a dedicated best friend in his yellow lab Bailey. The brother of Assunta, Patricia, Anthony, Joseph, Steven, and Rhonda, he grew up on Long Island, New York before relocating to Washington in his 30s.

John will be remembered as a true lover of life. His passion for music, especially the blues, was second only to his love of family. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his wife and children, first on fishing boats in the Atlantic, then honing his talent for fine craftsmanship and woodworking. But as hard as he worked, he would play even harder. Whether it was playing his favorite songs on his extensive collection of instruments, travelling the world in search of the perfect beach, or watching his teams (originally the Yankees and Giants, later the Seahawks) win games, John put his whole heart into having a good time.

He spent his final years in loving companionship with Nadine Haven and their menagerie of animals. His family is forever indebted to Andy Gardner and Randi Hedin for their help and friendship in recent years. His remains have been cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
