Jeffrey Blaine Goold

Jeffrey Blaine Goold

Jeff passed away on November 22, 2010, surrounded by the love of his wife, Terry Lavender, daughter, Cyanna Goold and many friends and family members.

He began life November 13, 1953, in Lebanon, Oregon, born to Doris (Neustel) and Norman Goold.   He had many tales to tell of bike riding, mill ponds, the Santiam River, building forts and playing with his friends and siblings.  In the summer they worked in the fields picking beans and strawberries and Jeff was proud of the pounds he picked.  Later he worked summers on larger farms moving irrigation pipe and other chores.  He was a hard worker and found joy in what he did.

He earned a B.A. in Education at Western Oregon University and joined the Peace Corp in 1978.  He spent three years teaching in Liberia and is remembered fondly by many of his students.  After the Peace Corp, he returned to Oregon and earned a B.S. in Geology at Oregon State University.

Jeff worked for many years as a geologist and environmental engineer and was well respected for his knowledge and skills.  His passion was in his volunteer work.  He worked for peace and justice and for local environmental causes.  He was instrumental in raising funds to protect Lund’s Gulch Creek in Meadowdale Beach Park, the Paradise Valley Conservation Area in Snohomish County and Bear Creek.  He planted hundreds of trees and was generous with his time.  He spent hours just exploring and getting to know every tree  and trail.  His energy and joy were inspirational.

He and Terry enjoyed traveling and built a wonderful cabin in the North Cascade’s, Stehekin Valley where they loved to spend time and always hoped for more.  He liked Grateful Dead music, Hawaiian slack key guitar, any kind of fishing, hiking, skiing and the Cascade Mountains.  He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his father Norman Goold, his stepmother, Mary Goold, his step father, Bob Smith, his step brothers, Paul and Mark Smith  and his best friend Gary Grieve.  He is survived by his daughter, Cyanna Goold of Seattle, WA; his wife, Terry Lavender of Woodinville, WA; his mother, Doris Smith of Lebanon, OR; his sister, Zoe Ann Goold Smith of Bend, OR; his brothers, Jay Goold of Anchorage, Alaska and Dwane Schwindt of Lebanon, OR and step brother, Geoff Smith of Lebanon, OR.

A celebration to honor his life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 11:30AM at the Clise
