Hildur was born on Sept. 22, 1921 in Eagle Lake, MN, the 3rd of five children born to Hulda E. and Christian O. Borgos. She grew up on a farm during the depression. After graduating from high school, she attended Moorehead Teacher’s college where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught in the country schools in Minnesota before going out to San Diego to join her sister, Florence, during WWII. Shortly thereafter she moved to Washington where she met her husband, Robert J. Chambers, at a local dance. They were married on July 3rd, 1954. She continued teaching, mainly in Fall City, until the birth of her first child in 1955 and then became a full time homemaker. They bought a house in Bellevue in 1958 where she lived until eventually moving into assisted living in 2006. She stayed in close touch with her sisters who also lived in the area.
Hildur was very involved in her church, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue, where she was the librarian for many years. She was also involved in the quilting group and was active in volunteering, including working with the disabled. Her hobbies and interests included working in her large yard, baking and canning, arts and crafts, and reading. She was a perfectionist and was known for her “perfect” pies and dinner rolls. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who, in turn, adored her. Hildur was selfless and put everyone else first. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always available to help in any way she could be it babysitting, wallpapering, killing spiders, being a den mother, driving kids back and forth, helping with homework, baking cookies, applying band aids complete with kisses . . . . the list goes on and on. She attended countless recitals, school concerts, baseball and basketball games and plays. She was the glue that held the family together. Hildur was preceded in death by her brother Alfred Borgos, sister Florence Best, grandchild Ashley Chambers and husband Robert. She is survived by her sisters, Laurize Windham and Sadie Rood, children Kathleen Gage of Eagan MN, Mike Chambers (Ann) of Duvall, WA and Mary Jarvis (Michael) of Kirkand, WA and six grandchildren – Christian and Allyson Gage, Michael and Amy Chambers and Nolan and Sean Frankenfield .
