Hazel H. Brock Gallacher
Hazel H. Brock Gallacher passed away at the age of 103 in Kirkland, WA.
Hazel Harriett Young was born to Arthur and Vivian (Campbell) Young in Lusk, WY, on February 10, 1920. The third of nine children, she spent her childhood on a 90-acre homestead. She moved with her family to Nampa, ID, in 1938. It was there she met her future husband Thomas M. “Fuzzy” Brock. They were married in 1942 and moved to Kennewick, WA, in 1946, where they raised their three children. Hazel spent the next 75 years of her life there. A loving wife and mother, she was married to Fuzzy for 60 years before his death in 2003. Hazel married William “Bill” Gallacher in 2008. They moved to Kirkland, WA, in 2021 to be closer to family. Hazel passed away just days short of their 15th wedding anniversary.
Hazel’s strong work ethic started early in life helping on the farm, where every fall she would have to miss school to help pick potatoes. Upon graduation from high school, she worked first in a laundry and later as a meat wrapper in a meatpacking plant. It was this profession that she and Fuzzy would have for the remainder of their working lives. They epitomized hard work and determination, eventually co-owning Pasco Meatpackers. Fuzzy retired after they sold the business, but never wanting to sit still, Hazel went to work in the meat department at Waremart Foods (now WinCo Foods). When she eventually retired, she continued to stay busy with her many hobbies – sewing gifts for her children and grandchildren, working in her fruit and vegetable garden, cooking, and canning. Prior to moving to Kirkland, Hazel and Bill were active members of the Southside Church in Richland, WA.
Exercise and health were very important to Hazel. She began walking for fitness and fun after retiring, and at 96, she was featured in a Tri-City Herald article about her workout regimen. Hazel attributed her long life to staying active and having faith. Even as she passed the century mark, she continued to go to the gym. It was COVID-related closures that led her to begrudgingly stop going and focus solely on outdoor walks.
She is survived by her husband Bill Gallacher; three children – Kay Reymore of Lake Stevens, WA; Tom Brock (and wife Vivian) of Duxbury, MA; and Ron Brock (and wife Gale) of Snohomish, WA; younger sister Marge (Young) Berber of Buckeye, AZ; five grandchildren – Bob Reymore (and wife Angie) of Marysville, WA; Rodger Reymore (and wife Monica) of Lynnwood, WA; Brian Brock (and wife Keeley) of Kirkland, WA; Michele Cameron (and husband Ian) of Basingstoke, England; and Andrea Morse (and husband Richard) of Westport, CT; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Fuzzy, five brothers, and two sisters.
In June there will be a celebration of life in Kennewick.
