Gregory Polt

Gregory Polt, a man of great integrity and principles, passed away on April 25, 2023, three days before his 82nd birthday. He was born on April 28, 1941 in Norfolk, Nebraska to parents Joseph and Mary Polt. Greg spent his childhood on the family farm in Pierce, Nebraska and attended Pierce High School, where he played basketball, football, and sang in the chorus.  

  

Greg enrolled in Creighton and then Marquette University, where he joined the ROTC program. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. After college, Greg served in the 83rd Army Engineer Battalion, where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Joy Polt,

who was serving in the Army Nurse Corp at that time.

  

In 1967 they relocated to Frankfurt and then Heidelberg Germany, where their first three children were born; Laura, Tricia and Stacie. After living in Europe for a total of seven years, Greg and his young family returned to the US where he continued his engineering work for the Federal Government. Their youngest child, Vance, was born in Lewiston Idaho. In 1974 Greg took a job with FEMA in Seattle, Washington. He and Joy raised their four children in Bellevue, a suburb located across the lake from Seattle. After he retired in 1996, he stayed active by helping with his wife’s and eldest daughter’s growing real estate business. 

  

image of Greg and Joy Polt, and Family Family was everything to Greg and his greatest joy in life was spending time with them. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He enjoyed road trips in the motorhome, bacon cheeseburgers at Wendy’s and ice cream for dessert. His legacy will live on through his wife, Joy Polt, their four children, six grandchildren, and his four surviving siblings.  

 

Greg was a devoted Catholic and could be found attending mass at his local church every weekend. A private funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Clyde Hill, Washington.
