Eleanora Adams

Eleanora “Norrie” Adams (Gustafson), 96, went peacefully home into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2019.

Eleanora was exceptionally loving– and kindness is the word that describes her best.  “She was the kindest person I’ve ever met,” said one son-in-law, and this sentiment was echoed by the many who knew and loved her. Always thinking of others, she sent thoughtful cards to brighten someone’s day.

Born in Ft. Wayne, IN in 1922, Eleanora remembered traveling on Rt. 66 with her family as a young girl to Seattle, where she lived until her passing. Her early years included delightful times with her parents, four sisters and a brother.

After graduating from Ballard High School, Eleanora supported her widowed mother and family by working at Pacific NW Bell. She married John E. Adams in 1950 and they raised four daughters. Later, she worked at the Seattle Public Schools, where her favorite job was at the Library Card Catalog. She loved books. Besides reading, Eleanora enjoyed poetry and spending time with her family.

Eleanora and John were married 62 years.  They enjoyed traveling, gardening, and volunteering for church. They were hard workers, but they also knew how to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures in life—a flower, crimson sunsets, or a child’s smile. Eleanora had a talent for hospitality and sewing. Over the years, she made numerous dresses for her daughters.

Growing up in the Depression and coming of age in World War II, she faced many trials and hardships. Eleanora always persevered and kept a positive attitude. Her character was anchored by her strong Christian faith. She was always ready and willing to help someone in need. Eleanora’s life impacted many, and she was an inspiration and wonderful role model to her daughters and grandchildren.

Eleanora’s friends and family miss their beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who is now rejoicing in heaven along with her devoted husband, John, who passed away in 2013.

Most importantly, Eleanora wished to have her family and friends remember the happy times they shared together.

Eleanora is survived by their four daughters: Nancy Adams Smith (Matt), Linda Charcas (David), Mary Beth Brown (Floyd), Susan Healow (Jim); Grandchildren: Jacob, Hayley, Peter, Patrick (Katie), Olivia, Nick (Jessica), Stephanie; and Great-Grandsons: Gideon, Nehemiah and Thaddeus Brown.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, June 9th, 2 pm. at:                                                                                     Maple Valley Presbyterian Church, 22659 Sweeney Rd. SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038, (425) 432-4399
