Edward Harkins Jr, a devoted husband, father, and retired member of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024 at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments, leaving behind a legacy of love and loyalty.
Edward dedicated much of his adult life to serving his country, retiring from the Air Force after 23 years. He proudly served his nation, leaving a lasting impact on his fellow servicemen and women, and carrying his deep sense of duty into his civilian life following his retirement. The care provided through the VA system was greatly appreciated by him and his family.
Edward Harkins Jr obtained his undergraduate at the University of Maryland and his graduate degree at Antioch in whole systems design. He retired from the Boeing group after implementing Quality Control training programs to colleges across the western US.
Also, Edward served to bring awareness and connection to Nature by serving on the board of a nonprofit, the Wilderness School. His love for Nature was profound. He had many books and many friends with whom he discussed the wonders found all around us in nature; the birds, the trees, the plants, the sky, and the systems in which we existed and enjoyed together.
In addition to his career and volunteer work, Edward Harkins Jr was a beloved husband to Pun Cho Harkins, with whom he shared a remarkable 55 years of marriage, and raised 2 children, his son Patrick and daughter Danielle. This partnership brought immense joy to both, and together, they built a life centered around family, love, companionship, and adventures. They have had a rich life of exploring, enjoying nature, and many road trips. They were the anchor for their family. He will be remembered for his patience, wisdom, open-mindedness, and the unwavering support he gave to those he loved.
His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
