Daniel Roy Ballou

Daniel Roy Ballou

June 23, 1951-January 14, 2011

Father, son, brother and uncle, our Dan was born June 23, 1951 in Seattle, WA.  He is survived by his son, M. Shawn Ballou, his mother Dorothy Ballou and sisters Donna Mayer (Bob) and Kathleen Simoneau (Kermit).  He was preceded in death by his father Charles Ray Ballou and his brother Michael R. Ballou.  He was loved and will be missed by his step-children Monica Adams (Chris), Felipe Sales and Kristina Sales and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Growing up, Dan spent his earliest years in Seattle, but with a father in the military, the family found themselves in Germany and Colorado for most of his young school-age years.  They finally moved back to Seattle where he attended Kellogg Junior High and graduated from Shorecrest High School in 1970.  He enjoyed these years in his life and was always well-liked by everyone.  Being so charming, handsome and witty, he was very popular and always had the girls swooning.

Upon graduating from high school, Dan entered the Air Force on August 31, 1970.  He spent quite a bit of time serving in Thailand and he seemed to make the best of the situations he was in.  While stationed in Arkansas, he met and married his first wife.  After the birth of their son, Dan was honorably discharged from the Air Force on October 21, 1977 and moved back to Seattle.

Dan was hired in March of 1978 with Boeing where he began as an entry-level worker.  He also met and married his second wife who had three children of her own and they became a family with four beautiful children.  As a family, they enjoyed spending summer vacations at Potholes as well as other spots where fishing and water sports were available.  They would pack up their fifth wheel and boat and camp out together to get away.

When Dan was not on vacation, he was incredibly devoted to his job and through the years, was able to work his way up within the company into a highly respected managerial position.  He was a wonderful manager to work for and was well-regarded by those working beside, as well as for him.  While he loved his time with Boeing, 30 years seemed enough for him and he finally retired in January of 2007.

He was diagnosed on December 28, 2010 with lung cancer and ended up spending a short time at Evergreen Hospital before he was moved to the Gene and Irene Wockner Hospice Center at Evergreen.  He received the most wonderful care at both facilities and was able to enjoy visits from many loved ones.   Dan will be greatly missed…

A memorial service will be held 11:30am Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Seed Community Church, 20610 Cypress Way, Lynnwood, WA 98036.  A military service will be held on Thursday, January 27th at Tahoma National Cemetery at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Services at Evergreen Hospital for the incredible care and devotion they gave to Dan:
