Charles Stallings, 82, was born on May 5, 1941 in Maben, Mississippi to Turner and Lorene Stallings. He died peacefully on January 1, 2024 in Edmonds, Washington with those who loved him at his side.
He did not have an easy life, but he learned how to work hard. His family raised pigs, chickens, and cows which he milked in the morning before going to school. Charles was in charge of the younger boys while his parents worked on the farm. One of his favorite memories was swimming in a nearby pond.
He lived in Maben for 9 years and then the family moved to the Craig Springs area in Mississippi. He attended Craig Springs Baptist Church and it was there that he was saved.
Charles graduated in 1959 from Sturgis High School, Sturgis, MS. He was well-liked by his classmates, got good grades, loved sports and lettered in football and basketball.
He was the third oldest of 7 boys. He was preceded in death by his parents and his six brothers: James William, John Harvie, Roy Gene, John Thomas, Glen Lee, and George Russell.
He was proud to have served in the US Army for 5 years, as an MP in Germany and on security detail after returning to the US. He earned the Marksman (missile) medal, Expert (carbine), Marksman (M-14 rifle), and the Good Conduct Medal.
Charles had a hard work ethic in all he did. He was a skillful technician in the garage door industry for many years. He enjoyed sports, gardening, Spider Solitaire and reading, especially westerns.
He was a grateful recipient of a kidney in 2009, and it served him well for the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of 29 years; son, James (Leslie) Green River, WY; granddaughter, Saja, Fort Collins, CO; daughters, Brenda Watrous (Mitch), Seattle, WA and Tracy Waldrop, Lynnwood, WA; grandchildren Marshall, Ryan, Natalie, Sam, Cole, Devon, WA, and Damian, TX, and Malachi, UT; sisters-in-law Shirley Jean (Glen Lee) Pontotoc, MS, and Shirley Faye (George Russell) Sturgis, MS.
Charles was proud of his family and loved them unconditionally. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rock of Hope Baptist Church in Edmonds, WA on February 17, 2024 at 2 pm where he was a proud member for over 40 years. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made to the Northwest Kidney Centers , the Huntington’s Disease Youth Organization (www.hdyo.org), or a charity of your choice.
