Charles August Smith

Charles August Smith was born in Park Rapids, MN August 23rd, 1937 and died on March 21, 2022. He was 84 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Fay (Whitehall) Smith of 59 years.  Daughters Sandra J. Everson and Lisa Y. Manly, grandchildren Lydia, Daniel, Yvonne, Rebekah and Emma, great grandchildren Naomi, Isaiah, Jonah, Elias, Jaron, Titan, William and Theodore on the way.

Charles served in the Army and then in the Army National Guard retiring in 1993. He was an AWAX and NIKE Hercules operator and ended as a Helicopter mechanic. He retired a Sergeant First Class E-7. He received many awards for his service over the years including Army Occupation Medal-Germany, National Defense, Army and National Guard Good Conduct and many more. He worked at the Olalla and Redmond NIKE missile sites and Fort Lewis.

He loved camping, fishing and horseback riding. He shared with us the importance of family, love, hard work, discipline and service to others.

He led by example and made many sacrifices to ensure we had everything we needed.

When they closed down the Redmond NIKE Site, he transferred to Fort Lewis. He chose to commute from Redmond to Fort Lewis so his family could stay in their home and school.

That sums up the loving sacrifice he always made for his family. Thank you for all the memories!
