Bruce W. Smith

On Saturday evening of January 19, 2013, the hardest working man we know passed away painlessly in his sleep. Bruce passed in the presence of his immediate family at the Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland Washington.

Born October 19, 1946 in Petaluma California, he was one of 4 children. His father, Wayne G. Smith, and mother, Jeanne Harris, soon moved to Spokane Washington where Bruce’s lifetime service to the HVAC trade began. Bruce devoted nearly 55 years to the trade with many stops along the way. From Spokane to Anchorage Alaska and finally to Lynnwood Washington where he finished up his career as a thriving owner of Bruce Smith Heating & Cooling for the last 18 years.

A lifelong competitor who loved racing cars and motorcycles, playing softball, cards, bowling and endless nights at the movies, his real passion was golf. Having played numerous courses around the U.S, his only wish over the last few years was to be healthy enough to play the game he loved so much.

Bruce’s penchant for humor will always be remembered and his infectious laugh will echo forever. He will be greatly missed by anyone who had the fortune of spending time with him.

Bruce is survived by his father Wayne Smith – Spokane; sister Jackie LeBlanc (Milton) – Nova Scotia; brothers Bob Smith and Randy Hastings (Cheryl) – Spokane; son Alan B. Smith (Shannon) – Snohomish; daughter Karen Doherty (Tim)- Spokane; grandchildren Jacob Smith – Everett, Matthew and Megan Doherty – Spokane, Ethan and Payton Smith – Snohomish, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his mother Jeanne Harris and his step-mother Jan Smith.

The family would like to thank the fine staff at Providence Regional Everett, Evergreen Hospital, Life Care of Kirkland and the Evergreen Gene & Irene Wockner Hospice center for their exceptional care over the last several months.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Sunday February 17th at 12:00 PM at Walter Hall Golf Course, 1226 W. Casino Road, Everett, Washington.

There will also be a get-together for his Spokane friends and family at 2755 Slice Dr, Post Falls, Idaho on February 10th from 2:00 – 4:00PM.
