Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with his family

Andrew “Andy” Accimus passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA with his family by his side.

 

He was born on July 19, 1931 to Andrew and Tamara Accimus in Tacoma, WA.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949, where he participated in track and soccer.  After working with his dad surveying land in Pierce County, he joined the Merchant Marines.  After a time, he joined the Army and was soon stationed in England where he met a darling Irish nurse, Claire, and they eventually married in County Clare, Ireland.

 
After returning to the U.S., Andy joined the Washington State Patrol, and he and Claire had 3 sons:  Andy Jr., Mark, and Pat.  He retired from the WSP in 1982.

 

During his retirement, Andy enjoyed camping, hiking, and outdoor activities.  He became active at St. Louise Catholic Church and led 2 trips to Israel.  He also worked one summer as a tour guide in Nome, Alaska.  He was never more excited than when he became a Grandpa, and he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandsons.

 
Andy was preceded in death by his mother and father, his two sisters, Kay and Susan, and his oldest son, Andy Jr.  He is survived by his sister Eleen Bissell of Puyallup, his sons Pat (Carolyn) of Woodinville and their children Drew and Brett; and Mark (Stefanie) of Castle Rock and their sons Boone and Jacob.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louise Catholic Church, 141 156th Avenue SE, Bellevue, WA  98007 on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00am, followed by a reception at the church.
